Meet Joanna
Parent, Volunteer, Teacher Turned First-Time Candidate
Joanna Bache Tobin has over 20 years of experience in education governance and oversight at the K-12 level and teaching at the college and continuing education level. In addition to hands-on teaching experience she has spent many years chairing accreditation teams evaluating public charter schools.
Joanna has also served her community as a volunteer, a private school board member, and chair of the Anne Arundel County Citizens' Advisory Committee on Recycling. She currently serves on the board of the Parent Teacher Student Association at Annapolis High School.
Joanna holds a bachelor of arts from Wellesley College, a master of arts from St. John's College in Annapolis, and a Ph.D. from Georgetown University. Joanna grew up overseas in the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa as a child of a U.S. diplomat where she attended local schools. She has lived in Maryland for over 30 years, and she and her husband have been residents of Anne Arundel County since 1999. They have a daughter who is a 2020 graduate of Annapolis High School.
